Snack Group: Popcorn Maize and More
Our snack group carries our pulse and grain expertise into enjoyable products. The group's flagship product, popcorn maize, is selected from hard-grain maize varieties with a high popping rate. Chosen with the sourcing experience we have built since 1978, the grains are sorted, sieved and packaged at our facilities in Mersin.
Quality in Popcorn Maize
The measure of quality in popcorn maize is the popping rate and volume expansion: kernels stored at the right moisture level (around 13-14%) burst under internal pressure when heated, forming large, white flakes. Our products pass through an optical sorting line; because broken and defective kernels are removed, the proportion of unpopped kernels is low. Packaging is done under the ISO 22000 food safety standard in moisture-protective packs.
Use and Storage
Popcorn maize can be prepared in a pot with a little oil, in a popcorn maker or in microwave-safe containers. To keep the kernels' popping performance, the packaging must be stored in a cool, dry place with the top sealed; a kernel that loses moisture will not pop. For cinemas, cafés and packaged-snack producers, consistent quality is critically important.

Frequently Asked Questions
The measure of quality is the popping rate: in quality popcorn maize the proportion of unpopped kernels is very low, and when the kernels pop they form a large, white volume. The determining factor is that the grain is harvested and stored at the right moisture level (13-14%).
When the grain loses moisture, the steam pressure inside it cannot build up and the maize does not pop. That is why popcorn maize should be stored in a sealed pack in a cool, dry place; a properly stored product keeps its popping performance for a long time.
We supply popcorn maize in 25 kg sacks, big-bags and consumer packs. Private-label packaging is available for cinemas and snack producers.
Yes; popcorn prepared at home with a little oil is a low-calorie snack thanks to its whole-grain structure and fibre content. Its health profile depends largely on how it is prepared: made with little oil and salt, it is a suitable option for a balanced diet.
